You’ve got your wellies polished and are ready to hit the road to this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Stradbally.
We’ve put together the top 5 tips from our most seasoned attendees to make sure you’ll be living it up at the Championships till the cows come home!
When planning for your trip to the Championships, have a flick through the Programme of Events to see what tickles your fancy.
However, be sure to come with an open mind and be flexible in your plans.
Businesses have invested a lot of time, effort and money in making their stands wacky and wonderful- have a peep into tents and stalls and you’ll be in for plenty pleasant surprises (not to mention free goodies!)
If you’re planning on driving, get an early start as there will be heavy traffic and queues for the car park, which is free.
It has already been advised in advance not to use SatNav to find the site. The area is very well sign posted, so keep your eyes peeled!
Instead, be sure to check out the Ploughing Championship site map to see the traffic plan for the event and establish which route you should be taking
If you’d rather leave the car at home (and avoid a very thorough scrub down!) Iarnród Éireann have a combined train and bus transfer on offer for people heading to the Championships
Dress for the weather! Wellies, jeans and a good waterproof mac are staples for the Ploughing Championships. Leave your pristine white runners at home, folks!
Put your wellies on at your car. While there are walkways at the site itself, you’ll be trekking across a field to reach it from the parking lot.
Notice how the fashion competition is not “Best Dressed” but rather “Most Appropriately Dressed”- comfort and practicality are the name of the game!
Be sure to take full advantage of the wide variety of traditional crafts and low cost goods while also supporting local business!
Fresh and tasty food is available in abundance, so shop around and don’t limit yourself to food halls.
Try your luck and ask for free samples! Last year a hotel provided complimentary stew at their stand and our staff are still raving about how tasty it was!
There will be constant cooking demonstrations, so keep your eyes peeled!
Interact with those at various stands and don’t hesitate to get involved with everything they have to offer.
These companies have shelled out considerable amounts to show off their wares and will be all too happy to engage with the public.
Last year BuyandSell even raffled pigs so that the lucky winners had fresh bacon delivered right to their door!
This year we’ve really upped our game here at BuyandSell and will be giving away freebies, holding a (free!) raffle with loads of fantastic prizes, having a fun interactive competition and there’ll be live animals at our stand for the kiddies to take a gander at, so be sure to check us out!
